Russia’s Mitigation

Though there are many natural hazards and disasters that tend to affect Russia more than others. Natural hazards that has cause the most damage to the country has been flooding as well as drought and extreme temperatures especially as of recently within the past recent decade. Throughout Russia and different regions throughout the world natural disasters and catastrophes tend to differ, just as the regions differ so do the type of hazards that may occur. Russia as of late has experienced some harsh weather such as heat waves and rising temperatures, flooding which can get severe, freezing cold rain, permafrost, as well as earthquakes too. Because of the rising tensions in weather in response to global warming, the rising temperatures have caused massive heat waves reactions throughout the country. With the rise in temperatures in spots such as Siberia there tends to be an occur of wildfires in response to the high heat as well as the dry nature climate in the surrounding areas. This of course is due to human activities, and these activities directly harm us right back one example is due to drought and drying out vegetation crops. However, Russia is directly affected by severe flooding due to global warming as well. Specifically in the regions of Russia such as Volga and Amur there tends to be heavy rainfall, ice jams, and river floods in result of ice melting.

In response to these natural hazards and rise in global warming, there are drastic measures as well as mitigation plans to try and ease these hazards potentially. It is crucial that there is proper mitigation plans and reactions in place for moments of hazards, and in times of need. In the case of wildfires, it is important that there should be a focus on implementing proper equipment such as advanced fire detection systems, as well as boosting fire fighting equipment and employment. As well as avoiding the use of electrical equipment outdoors to avoid any sparks of fire and promoting the safe use of these objects if used. In the case of floods, the plans of mitigation would involve the improvement of management of rivers, tracking early warning signs and systems. Having a proper and effective strategy that plans the use of land which limits the urban development which is located in high-risk flood areas. For both flood and heat waves/rising temps the plans and mitigation process for each of these issues and the plans listed above is how I would plan on attacking any issues like such that shall plague my country I had selected.

In order to focus on mitigation for floods as well as these extreme temperatures and heat waves it is important  to properly target assistance effectively. Main target areas involved would be to focus on Siberia as well as along the rivers of Volga and Amur. These specific areas are there spots throughout the country that are most affected by these hazards. Taking proactive measures to comat these hazards can significantly reduce future disater related impacts that continue to impact the country as a whole. This shows that having the proper mitigation process in place can help a country out in more ways than just one.

Taking the proper steps in order to ensure the country is choosing the correct and most ideal locations for construction to mitigate these issues. In this case it is also important for Russia and other countries not to do any construction in zones that are more prone to high risks of wild fires and subject to flooding. Doing construction and work to mitigate this process would be best to do it in an area in which the regions surrounding have lower susceptibility to these such hazards. Some of the safe places to do construction throughout Russia would be closer to central and southern Russia. Ensuring that consturction is done in a safe environment will only help prevent any hazards and benefit the country as a whole.

Altogether with proper mitigation plans in place to ensure the safety of people within the country of Russia, these plans will help in the instance of any natural hazards that may occur in the near future. Whether it’s the springtime flooding in the counrty or summer heat waves and rising temps, the mitigation plans in place are needed to try and combat these severe natural hazards. The biggest take away after doing this research was finding out just how impactful and important these mitigation measures are for each country, especially my country that I had chose. Without these mitigation plans in place there’s no telling how much damage would be done all over the world due to the natural hazards that may occur.
