Week 3: Earthquakes

 Throughout this week's lecture, we are studying the fault lines within different countries and how they affect each of them individually. We also look at how these fault lines are affected during an earthquake. Specifically in the country I selected, which is Russia. They aren't very active when it comes to earthquake hazards but they have most recently had some activity as recent as yesterday. Most recently, Russia was hit with two earthquakes in the 4.0 and above territory, as well as one at a 3.2 magnitude and lastly, a 4.5 magnitude located near the Bering Sea, in Russia. On average per year Russia is prone to about 212 earthquakes and about 17 per month, as well as roughly one per day. Though Russia has a vast majority of land, there are also some parts located in seismically active areas and as stated above with evidence it's clear that earthquakes do happen within the country. The Ulakhan strike-slip fault system is the biggest located in the northeastern parts of Russia. Below the picture shows the fault lines along the tectonic plates throughout the world. The other picture down below is a list of earthquakes that have occurred in the last ten years throughout Russia.
